Common names : Sp: granadilla, granadita, granadilla de China, parchita amarilla, parcha dulce, parcha importada, maracuja-urucu, sweet granadilla, grenadille douce, grenadille de montagne, grenadelle. The Latin name comes from the particularly long, ligulate, petiole nectars.

Passiflora ligularis has it's origin in the Andes from Venezuela to Peru and Bolivia, at 1400-2400 m. Also present in Central America. Naturalized in Jamaica and Haiti.

Sweet Grenadilla is a vigorous woody vine, propagated by seeds. The fruits are very sweet, mostly consumed fresh, more rarely in beverages and desserts, as taste is not strong enough. The fruit has an excellent presentation, and a relatively long shell life. It is a major passion fruit in Colombia, where it is reputed as a healthy baby-food.

Can tolerate some light frost.
